Research in the PEG is supported by a number of core facilities. In addition, these facilities will provide support for the scientific community by providing protocols, technical help, and reagents (collaboration or at cost).

Mass Spectrometry and Analytical Protein Biochemistry

This core will provide protocols, and analysis using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry (MS) and other proteomic technologies, including identification of glycoproteins, glycosylation sites information, quantitative glycosylation site occupancy, and glycan screening and determination.

The Chemistry Core

The core specializes in monosaccharide analogues used in “metabolic glycoengeering” technology but is also pursuing inhibitors of glycosyltransferases and developing methods to improve the pharmacological properties of sugar based drugs to facilitate their in vivo use and clinical translation.

O-GlcNAc Resources

The O-GlcNAc core will provide the necessary reagents, specialized equipment, and expertise to study the O-GlcNAc modification in cardiac models, as well as providing a national resource for studying O-GlcNAcylation in physiological models of interest to the NHLBI.

Myocyte Isolation and Myocyte and Cardiac Physiology

Core D provides a centralized mechanism to generate cellular and organ-level analysis of cardiovascular function, and to supply individual projects with isolated myocytes for additional molecular/protein analysis.
