Future GlycoGen Announcement

Dear PEG members,

We are pleased to announce the 1st Future GlycoGen session at Inter-PEG meeting 2014, a “for trainees, by trainees” platform aimed at aiding postdoctoral and graduate student researchers take the next step in their careers. The Future GlycoGen session will be held on Wednesday, March 26th of 2014, the first day of the Inter-PEG meeting 2014 from 1 PM to 5 PM. Complete details will be provided once finalized, but a small snapshot of current plans is below.

The Future GlycoGen session is being organized by a committee comprised of postdoctoral and graduate trainees from each PEG project and is the first event of its kind ever organized at Inter-PEG meetings. Its aims are three-fold: to help trainees (1) interact amongst themselves, (2) explore possible collaborations for the future, and (3) provide a platform for recognition by their peers. All these aims support trainees’ career prospects.

The session will consist of selected oral presentations from postdoctoral and graduate student researchers. In addition, the committee is honored to include an invited speaker on career development in this session.  Dr. John Lowe of Genentech has accepted the invitation and will kick off the program on Wednesday (3/26/14) at 1pm.

Moreover, the committee is pleased to announce the installation of three awards:

1)     Two best poster awards (one per poster session);

2)     One best senior trainee oral presentation award; and

3)     One best “new to glycoscience” oral presentation award.

These awards are an opportunity for PEG trainees to receive recognition for their work from their peers.

It is with great pleasure that we host this session and hope that all trainees can attend. We anticipate enthusiastic participation and look forward to a successful session.

Yours sincerely,

Future GlycoGen Organizing Committee
